Home ec food blog

hello friends. this is my home ec food blog, hope you like it, enjoy :)

REFLECTIONS AND LEARNING POINTS

From this exercise it has helped me to see exactly what I put into my body, good or bad. I think this process has helped me to eat more healthily. I also think that recording down everything you eat in a day is a great way to keep a balanced diet. If you are trying to lose weight keeping track of your diet will definitely help you in making sure that you do not eat excess calories.

From cooking my healthier dish it has helped me think outside of the box to create healthier versions of any dish. For example. i cooked a healthier version of beef bolognese by substituting the beef for chicken and used wholemeal pasta. When i was actually cooking my dish, i leant to manage my time well and to keep calm under pressure. if you do not keep calm when you are cooking, you will panic even more which could end up ruin your dish.

REFLECTIONS ON MY 3 DAY DIET:

I personally think that I have a balanced diet but i could eat more fruits and vegetables. I have observed that i do consume quite a lot of calories per day, i eat even when i am not hungry, which is fine now as I am still young, growing and active. However as i grow up and my metabolic rate drops, i think that i should be more aware about how many calories i eat.

I also observed that i eat most of my carbohydrates during lunch which i believe is quite healthy as the carbs will provide energy for me throughout the day. Another reason why i think my diet is fairly healthy is that i do not eat much sweet things or desserts. Desserts of anything that contain high amounts of sugar can have negative impacts on your body in the long run so I am quite happy that i do not have a sweet tooth!!

MY HEALTHIER DISH

The bolognese I ate could be cooked in a healthier way.  I could substitute the beef for chicken and could use whole wheat pasta too. This is my recipe.

CHICKEN BOLOGNESE

INGREDIENTS:

100g of wholewheat spaghetti
3 tbsp of oil
2 garlic-chopped
1/2 onion-chopped
1/3 can of tomatoes
1 stick of celery
1/2 carrot-diced small
2 tbsp of tomato paste
6 button mushrooms-sliced
1 pinch of salt + pepper
1/4 tsp of oregano
150g of minced chicken

METHOD:

1. add a pinch of salt into a pot of boiling water. Add spaghetti and cook until al dente. Drain pasta and add olive oil

2. heat oil and fry onions, celery, carrots and garlic till light golden brown. (until fragrant)

3. add minced chicken and fry well for a few minutes

4. add in a can of tomatoes, tomato paste and water. Add mushrooms.

5. add seasoning then taste

6. let sauce come to a boil until thick consistency

7. pour sauce over spaghetti, add parmasan cheese and parsley to garnish

8. serve dish hot.
